Super-Earth is a term that describes an extrasolar planet with a mass greater than that of the Earth and belonging to the type of rocky planets. Depending on the definition adopted, the mass of this type of planet may vary from 1 to 10 or 5 to 10 times the mass of the Earth. K2-141b is about 50% larger than the Earth, but at the same time 5 times denser, and what is more, its "year" lasts the shortest of all known planets, because it needs only 6.7 hours to fully circle its sun. This means, of course, that it has to be very close to him, so it must be terribly hot on the planet.

In the new study, scientists from McGill and York, as well as the Indian Institute of Science Education, simulated the atmosphere and weather conditions on K2-141b, which it turns out to be not very hospitable. Simply put, it is one of the most extreme exoplanets described - the simulations suggest that there is a cycle similar to the Earth's water cycle, except that instead of rain, rocks are falling here! Moreover, the planet operates in a synchronous rotation with its star (the period of one body's rotation around its axis is equal to the period of rotation around the other body), so that about two-thirds of its surface is always bathed in daylight.

The temperature then reaches 3000 ° C, dissolving the surface into a huge ocean of lava 100 kilometers deep. As if that were not enough, the temperature is so high that the stones evaporate, making the planet's atmosphere largely composed of silicon dioxide. The night part of the planet never sees the sun, so temperatures here drop to -200 ° C.
